Upcoming movies to look out for
QUBlers, QUBlettes, and friends,
in today’s post we’re giving you a selection of upcoming movies to look out for, all of which are centered on the lives of gay characters and their struggles. Bridegroom tells the story of the rejection by his family of Tom Bridegroom’s sexual orientation and of his love for Shane. A rejection of their son’s and son’s partner’s life and love that ran so deep as to refuse Shane access to Tom’s funeral, his soulmate. In reaction to not being able to say goodbye to the love of his life at his funeral, Shane produced a video about their story and the dramatic turn it took. He published it on youtube and got the world’s attention for the injustice, the hate, and the incomprehensible events that can happen even in a “free” society as the one they live in. Bridegroom is a timely documentary, a must see.
And here, most importantly, the video Shane made after Tom’s funeral. The video that got the world’s attention and permitted for the full feature documentary to be made.
Kill your Darlings is inspired by true facts about the early college years of poet Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) and the people he encountered during his first year at Columbia University in 1944and the way they shaped his student’s life as well as his future life and character. It is story of love and rebellion, an outcry for modernist ideas (especially in literature) and clashing with traditionalism and conservatism.
All over the United States, but also in other countries around the world, such as the UK, high schools have seen the rise of “Gay-Straight Alliances”. Clubs that allow young gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students to meet and discuss their growing up in a society that does not necessarily welcome them as it should. Sharing experiences, supporting each other, finding friendship and even help from either allied school teachers or school nurses that join and/or supervise such clubs. No need to stress the importance of such small organizations for lgbt teenagers. Well Geography Club is about the founding, in secret, of such an alliance, and its progress into openness. It also tells the stories of the founding protagonists as well as others later joining the club. A nice story about growing up lgbt in your all-american highschool. A film for teens and older moviegoers.
QUB Movie Night: You’re in charge!
Hoi zäme!
Next week we’ll all converge towards the comfy “break-room” of the Theological Seminar (University of Basel, Nadelberg, Basel) again, for our upcoming event “QUB Film Night”. Unlike previous similar events, this time we have decided to put YOU in charge of deciding which movie we will watch! How so? Simply participate to the poll on this page by voting for the movies you would like to see! (Note: beside the movie titles we indicated whether the storyline, or the characters, or parts of it, or some of them, were more L = lesbian, G = gay, B = bisexual or T = Transgender)
Looking forward to watching the movie of your choice,
Yours,
QUB-Friend
